For the first time in New Zealand, families will be able to order bronze plaques online – including having an input into design.
The new plaque designing and ordering system will be launched in the first quarter of 2018. It’s an initiative unique to Purewa Cemetery, resulting from consultations between Purewa’s administration department (endorsed by the Purewa Cemetery Trust Board) and ICT solutions company, Mace IT Services.
The service will streamline the current ordering process, eliminating form filling, hand drawn sketches, proofing and paperwork for superior three-way communication between Purewa administration, families and the plaque manufacturer.
Families can select a plaque design then customise it themselves by changing layout, adding clipart, images and wording messages with their choice of fonts and colours. This can be done from the comfort of their home with family members, which will give a unique experience to the bereaved families, Mace IT technical director Firoz Wadhwania says.
‘‘When Purewa’s general manger Clifton Thomson approached us with the idea, we were able to adapt existing technology used in the printing industry. We looked at a whole e-commerce solution, including customisation and cloud-based work flow solutions. It was the starting point from which we developed a user-friendly, efficient and cost-competitive solution that is adaptable to other cemetery products including headstones, Walk of Memories tablets, Niche Wall plaques etc,” Mr Wadhwania says.
Clifton Thomson says Purewa was looking for more opportunities ‘‘to win the paper war’’.
‘‘Previously we could would have paperwork going back and forth with orders, designs, proofs, changes and approvals; in the future a family will be able to go online and choose the appropriate plaque for the correct area within the cemetery, submit a design and get an immediate cost indication. It’s quick and transparent with easy payment options; and if you’re not confident about the design our expert administration staff can help,” Mr Thomson says.
‘‘We have a longstanding relationship with one of east Auckland’s best-known plaque manufacturers. Anyone can use this service, and if the plaque is ordered through Purewa, installation is within the quoted plaque price".
The increase in ash interments has made plaques a popular choice, with Purewa producing hundreds each year. Purewa Cemetery offers the widest range of options for the interment and memorialisation of ashes in New Zealand.
